Jasmine Nadua Trice is Associate Professor in the Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her book, City of Screens: Imagining Audiences in Manila Film Culture was published by Duke University Press in 2021 (runner-up, Best First Monograph Award, British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies). Her second book manuscript, Practices of Futurity: Urban Worldmaking in Southeast Asian Film Collectives (coauthored with Philippa Lovatt) is based on a film programming project developed in collaboration with the Association for Southeast Asian Cinemas (ASEAC) (under review). Her work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, Pelikula, and Feminist Media Histories.
A dedicated teacher, at UCLA she's taught classes on topics such as postcolonial/decolonial theory and media studies, Southeast Asian film, film/media exhibition and reception, and Asian city films. Outside the university, she's run workshops on feminist oral history and the history of decolonial feminist filmmaking. She serves on the board of Io International (formerly Isis International), a feminist media-communications organization based in Manila and founded in 1974.
